Classes
Phoenix is structured as a twice a week program, aimed at introducing new fencers to the sport, and providing a place where fencers can learn and gain experience, while enjoying the social and physical aspects of doing a sport. To cater to students differing needs. we arrange our classes in the following order:
Beginners
Beginners start with a trial session with a coach, this session is aiming to introduce the basic actions and safety, with the aim of getting them "fencing" by the end of the session.
Main Classes
Young or new fencers 8-12 will join our junior class, primarily done with foil where students can learn the technique, control and build muscle. This class is held on saturdays 12-2pm at the glenfield guide hall, hall road, glenfield.
Development
When fencers are of a certain age/ability level they can move up to the senior group, 12-18. The senior group is taught with Epee to an intermediate level, with a larger focus on fitness and specif athlete skills. these classes are held on mondays 6-8pm at the glenfield guide hall, hall road, glenfield.
Competitive
While Phoenix is structured at a casual to early athlete levels, quality support can be given to fencers who are interested in becoming competitive. this can include private lessons, competitive guidance, and connection to the wider fencing community. Those wishing to become competitive should be receiving regular individual lessons, competitions, and regular fencing with other competitive opponents. this can involve being introduced to another higher level club to supplement training. Contact Kyle if interested.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are essential for fencing development and success, establishing correct habits and technical foundations provides a solid base for higher skill levels. Lessons provided are exclusively through the TBB "German" method, a system which has achieved great success locally and internationally. Lessons can be arranged directly with Kyle, at club or at select other venues/times.
